I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of every envier when he envies and from the "Evil-Eye" of everyone who casts evil-eye. A few points were discussed in the previous column about the "Evil-Eye." Today, a few more narratives and then a look at the cure for the "Evil-Eye."

Grave and Cauldron

A Hadith says:

Evil-Eye pushes man into the grave and pushes the camel into the cauldron. (Zaad-ul-Ma'ad, Ibn-e-Addy, Abu Naeem)

It means that "Evil-Eye" can cause man's death. If it works at the camel, it falls down and its owner does not find any way out than slaughtering and cooking it.

Death Due to Evil-Eye

A Hadith says:
"The object of this narrative is that many people die due to Evil-Eye. (Al-Bazaaz)

Evil-Eye Kills

At the times of the Holy Prophet , a companion Hazrat Sahl bin Hanif (RA) was taking a bath. A man Aamir bin Rabia (RA) saw him and cast an evil eye at the beauty of his skin. (That companion fell down and began to wriggle) He got offended with Aamir and said:
Why any of you kills his brother through evil-eye and why he does not pray for him. Then he ordered that fellow who had cast the evil-eye to take a bath. Therefore he took a bath and threw the water of his bathing at Hazrat Sahl bin Hanif(RA), who was recovered. (Zaad-ul-Ma'ad, Ibn-e-Habaan)

The Holy Prophet Would Seek Refuge from the Evil-Eye

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (RA) Reports:

The Holy Prophet would seek refuge with Allah from the Evil-Eye of the people. (Tirmizi, Nisai)

Poison of the Eyes

There are some serpents who, if look at some one out of anger and enmity, their eyes shed poison and kill that person whom they look at or render him blind or cause the pregnant ladies aborted. In the same way, there comes out an invisible poison from the eyes of the envier and it is transferred to that person whom he looks at with liking and jealousy. This poison is more in some people and less in some others. Allah has put strange efficacies in the soul and body of man. No wise man can negate it. Then, actual efficacy comes out from the "Soul" and is transferred to the others through the eyes. Take the following example to grasp the point: If the person for whom you have great respect looks at you with love, the face is flushed. If an oppressor gazes at some oppressed, he loses wits and if a lion looks at someone with angery look, that person begins to shudder. It becomes clear that there is efficacy in everything and denying it is mere ignorance. (Zaad-ul-Maad)

Invisible Rays

Some learned people are of the view that invisible rays come out from the eyes of the Evil-Looker which penetrate into the pores of the opponent and harm him.

How Does Evil-Eye Work?

It is not essential for the influence of the Evil-Eye to look. Some people have very wicked "Self" and they cause the influence of the eye through their "Self" and "Soul". If someone's qualities are enumerated before a blind man and he attends to him with envy, the influence of the eye works. (Zaad-ul-Maad)

Arrows of the Evil-Look

The archer selects his target. Then he fixes the arrow in the bow and aims at the target. If the opponent is unarmed and weak, the arrow works. If he is armoured, active and agile, he escapes it. Sometimes, the arrow comes back to the archer. Same is the case with Evil-Eye. When a person looks at someone or listens to someone's praise, he begins to like him. An arrow is prepared out of the wickedness and jealousy of his "Self". Then he throws that arrow or poison through his eyes. Now if the opponent has not made arrangements for his safety and his soul is also weak, that arrow hits him. If his soul is strong and he has made arrangements for his safety, no harm comes to him. Sometimes, that Evil-Eye comes back to him and harms him.

Man's Own Eye Also Influences

Sometimes man's own eye also influences him. The Holy Prophet has told its cure. Now, it is the age of "Self-Love." Everyone likes his own Self. So, this eye is causing more harm than ever before.

Mobile Sight

Allah has granted man's soul with great power. Different effects come out of man's soul and are transferred to others through air waves. Hatred as well as love, good and well as wickedness, virtue as well as vice are transferred to others. All that you talk to others on the Mobile Phone, is conveyed to other countries through air waves. Man's soul is more powerful than the frequency of the Mobile Phone and waves.

Lest You Should Be Afraid?

Last week, I quoted a few traditions "sight is true, sight is mighty and sight is fatal." A few narrations have also been narrated today. I fear lest you should have felt fear after reading them. You need not feel fear. It is Allah's favour that we are the Ummah of the Holy Prophet . He has never deserted his Ummah nor he will desert us on the Day of Resurrection. He protected his Ummah in the battlefield. He told them the ways how to protect themselves against Satan, giants and other maladies. What power the Evil-Eye has before the Noble Quran. The Noble Quran is Allah's word. How can Evil-Eye withstand the supplications of the Holy Prophet however much stronger it is? So, do not feel fear. However, do take care and strengthen your soul through invoking to Allah's good names, Recitation, Protecting your Eyes, careful-feeding, fasting and not being jealous of anyone. Have you not observed some of the Miyahideen who always try to conceal themselves. But their soul is so strong as to upset Mr. Bush's peace of mind. Dick Channy hides himself in the Tanker, Advani Loses his wits and Karzai is like a fish out of water whereas Mujahideens' souls convey subtle impacts of love, peace of mind and encouragement to their sincere friends. When I recall these Mujahideen in solitude, waves of peace of mind and encouragement begin to arise in the heart. Allah is, no doubt, All-Powerful over everything and He has created the soul Himself without any external agent. May Allah strengthen the souls of our weak people!

Defence And Cure

Many supplications to defend the sight have been reported in the traditions. We should keep supplicating them and be immune to Evil-Eye by the grace of Allah. The supplications and methods to remove the evil effects of the poison or the arrow have also been described. The Muslims should make arrangements for both i.e. strengthen the defence and do treatment to end up Evil-Eye.

Do Resolve

Allah is the Lord of us all. He listens to all. The Messenger of Allah is our Prophet, lord and everything . The Noble Quran is for us all. Why do we not get benefit from it? There is a strange practice in Karachi. People write down the name of the daughter and her mother and request some person for Istikharah . Why does every Muslim not observe Istikharah himself? Once, I asked a person who would observer Istikharah for others about its method. All that he told me had no weight and reality in it.

Istikharah means begging good of Allah. Do we feel ashamed of begging good for ourselves? It is heard that there are Istikhara programmes at the TV also. There seems great deception in it. Now after hearing about the Evil-Eye, all the people will rush to incantators to request them to blow incantations over them. It is correct that there is no harm in requesting the pious to blow incantations over us. But the questions is "Why do we ourselves not do so?" When the doctor prescribes medicine, we eat it ourselves and take exercise ourselves. It never happens that we give money to someone else and request him to take exercise for us. In the same way, when the Ulama tell the cure of a disease from the Noble Quran, we should do it ourselves. There is great good in it. The relation with Allah strengthens by observing Istikhara ourselves. I do not make you pledge by making you lift your both hands but I make you resolve to cure yourselves with the help of the supplications told you for the cure of Evil-Eye. Have you resolved? O.K.

The ladies are specially requested not to go to men Incantators. You yourselves are dear slaves of Allah. Do beg of Allah yourselves. In this way, your Emaan and faith will progress and you will get peace of mind.

A Point

You have studied a few points about the might of the soul. Now imagine yourselves. If a wicked soul can hurt someone by fixing the arrow of Evil-Eye in the bow of jealousy, how great powerful the souls of the Believers will be and how great Belief-provoking efficacy their eyes will have. Hence, the eye of the pious people has great power. Its denial is a folly. Hazrat Khawaja Majzoob has written very strange verses about the eye and attention of his Spiritual Guide Hazrat Ashraf Ali Thaanvi. You can trace them in his book if you like. If Sa'di Faqir starts writing about this topic, he will go too far and will be lost in the eyes of his Spiritual-Guide Hazrat Wali Hasan :

It is sufficient for today. If life lasts and Allah grants me with the power, I shall tell you the cures of Evil-Eye the next week. If you want to remain immune from this fatal arrow till that time, keep reciting the last two Surahs of the Noble Quran in abundance. Do blow incantations of the Surah Al-Fateha, Ayat-ul-Kursy and last two verses of the Surah Al-Qalam yourselves. No Evil-Eye can withstand these Quranic verse. You will find great peace of mind if you recite with certainty and faith.
